The Abo Group Inc. has landed a
five-year, standing order contract from the National Institute
of Standards - the ninth government deal awarded to the full-service
architecture firm in the last three years.
The firm has contracts with the National Park Service, Department
of Agriculture, Department of Labor, National Renewable Energy
Laboratory, General Services Administration, Department of
Veteran Affairs, U.S. Air Force Academy and the Regional Transportation
District. The nine contracts total more than $25 million in
construction costs.
Current government projects include a clinical addition to
the Veterans Administration Hospital in Cheyenne, a remodel
of a federal office building and post office in Fargo, N.D.,
the design of several structures at the Clearfield Job Corps
Center in Clearfield, Utah, and laboratory upgrades at NREL's
Golden campus.
The firm is also designing an 80-unit affordable senior-housing
development in Loveland.

KL&A Wins AISC Merit Award for Pueblo
Library Project
The American Institute of Steel Construction presented Engineering
Awards of Excellence to 11 projects at the 2005 North American
Steel Construction Conference held in April in Montreal.
Doug Rutledge of KL&A Inc. in Golden accepted the Merit
Award for the Robert Hoag Rawlings Public Library in the $10
to $25 million project category on behalf of the firm.
SBEC to Provide Mechanical and Electrical
Engineering on CU Project
Shaffer-Baucom Engineering & Consulting has been selected
mechanical and electrical engineering services for the upcoming
University of Colorado School of Business renovation and addition
on the Boulder campus.
SBEC's mechanical and electrical engineers will work with
the project architect to deliver a sustainable LEED certified
building in accordance with a student referendum.
Firestone Presents Roofing Industry Leaders
Awards
Firestone Building Products Co. honored 250 commercial roofing
contractors in the United States, Canada and Mexico - including
Douglass Roofing Co. of Commerce City - with its 2005 Master
Contractor Award.
Master Contractor status is earned by roofing firms for inspection
ratings received and total square footage for all qualified
Firestone Roofing Systems installed during 2004.
Boulder Community Foothills Hospital Wins
ASHE VISTA Award
Boulder Community Foothills Hospital, designed by Boulder
Associates in association with OZ Architecture, has won the
2005 American Society for Healthcare Engineering's VISTA Award,
which recognizes excellence in the design and construction
of environmentally sustainable health care facilities.
S.A. Miro Team Opens New Branch Office in
Summit County
S. A. Miro Inc. has opened a branch office at 610 Main St.
in Frisco.
The husband-and-wife team of Steve and Jessica Marshall have
relocated to Summit County to launch the office. Both Marshalls
are structural engineering project engineers with more than
nine years of service at Miro.
White Construction Wins Contract from City
of Edgewater
White Construction Group has been awarded a contract by the
city of Edgewater to perform historical rehabilitation and
repairs to the Edgewater Heritage Center, also known as First
Christian Church.
The architect is Porcello Engineering of Denver.
The rehabilitation includes site work for foundation stability,
replacing the existing concrete floor slab, floor and roof
reinforcement and masonry repairs. Ground was scheduled to
be broken in May on the project, funded in part by the Colorado
Historical Society State Historical Fund.
NC&D Selected for College Interior Design
Project
Newman Cavender & Doanes has been chosen to provide interior
design services for the College of Financial Planning. The
firm has earned some of the state's most prominent architecture
and design projects, including projects for Sage Hospitality
Resources, Denver Newspaper Agency, Cimarex Energy Co. and
Donor Alliance.
Roche Constructors to Build New Police Facility
in Greeley
The city of Greeley has awarded Roche Constructors Inc. a
$14.7 million contract to build its new police station on
the site of the former K-Mart store in the 2800 block of 10th
Street.
The new complex will include a headquarters building of approximately
50,000 sq ft and a new 28,000-sq-ft evidence and storage building.
Anderson Mason Dale Architects of Denver will design the facility.
Roche will also remodel the current police facility in downtown
Greeley and the department's firing range.
Bahr Vermeer Haecker Opens Studio in Colorado
Springs
Bahr Vermeer Haecker Architects has opened new studio in
Colorado Springs.

Flatiron's FCI Wins $32 Million California
Highway Contract
FCI Constructors Southern Division was awarded a $32 million
contract near San Diego to build additional lanes and bridges
and provide access to high-occupancy vehicle lanes along Interstate
15 near Rancho Bernardo.
FCI will utilize more than 8,000 cu yds of concrete to build
the new bridges and 8,800 cu yds of concrete for retaining
walls. The firm will also construct more than 47,000 sq ft
of mechanically stabilized earth walls, install more than
a mile of storm drain pipe and both steel piling and cast-in-drilled-hole
piling.
CTL/Thompson Doubles Office and Lab Space
in Colorado Springs
CTL/Thompson has increased the size of its Colorado Springs
office location.
Located at 5170 and 5240 Mark Dabling Blvd., CTL/T has added
5,000 sq ft of office and laboratory space to its existing
10,000-sq-ft location.
The expanded space has allowed consolidation of the engineering
services and the soils testing laboratory into one building,
with field operations and the materials testing laboratory
in an adjacent building.
Quality Electric Revamps and Upgrades Its
Web Site
Quality Electric Inc. in Thornton has completed the remodel
and upgrade of its Web site at www.qualityelectric.com.
The new site provides the electrical contracting company's
clients with key services that are more convenient and efficient
for them to access and use. The most advanced feature is the
ability to schedule maintenance or place an emergency service
call - 24 hours a day - with the click of a mouse.
Precon Bridges Awarded Contract for Patio-Home
Development
Precon Bridges has been awarded a two-bridge contract for
the EastGate Community Development in Longmont.
The project includes two matching, prefabricated bridge systems
that will connect the EastGate community with neighboring
developments. The bridges will be designed to accommodate
pedestrian, bike and other anticipated recreational traffic.
The fully engineered bridges and compatible precast concrete
abutment foundations will be delivered ready-to-install to
the site for minimal impact and will be ready to use within
hours of installation.
Swinerton Receives 2004 Safety Award from
Hispanic Contractors
The Hispanic Contractors of Colorado presented Swinerton
Builders with its 2004 Excellence in Safety Award for Large
General Contractor through the association's 15th annual awards
program.
The company was recognized for its safety record by award
sponsors Pinnacol Assurance and CRS Insurance Brokerage.
