CentrePoint Receives Design Excellence Award

The City of Aurora recently presented Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture and the Arapahoe County Commissioners with a Design of Excellence award for Arapahoe CentrePoint Plaza.

The 142,000-sq-ft plaza, located at 14980 E. Alameda Dr. is the first building constructed in Aurora for Arapahoe County. It opened in May 2002 and was built $750,000 under budget.

CentrePoint Plaza houses offices for Arapahoe/Douglas Works!, information services, human services and assessors. CentrePoint's services accommodate foster parents, families in need of financial help and job training and senior citizens. The building also has office space for the county commissioners and community meetings.

Awards judging criteria included design innovation, efficiency and flexibility, quality of construction and materials, conservation of natural resources, open space and environmental quality, landscaping, continued maintenance of the property and overall harmony with surrounding uses.

Shaw Receives American Dream-Maker Award

Sears, Roebuck and Co. honored Denver's Shaw Construction with the Sears American Dream-Maker Award in the category of "Builders with Revenues between $100 million to $399 million."

Shaw was nominated for the award by the Rocky Mountain Housing Development Corp. Inc. for the donation of the George Shaw Community Building in the Arapahoe Green Townhomes project. The award allowed Shaw Construction to select Rocky Mountain HDC Inc. to receive a $10,000 contribution from Sears.

The Sears American Dream Campaign began in August 2002 in response to a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development study that revealed less than 50 percent of African Americans and Hispanics own homes. Sears American Dream-Maker Awards recognize contractors whose charitable efforts enhance home ownership and maintenance for moderate- and low-income families.

CTL/Thompson was formed in 1977 through a merger of Robert W. Thompson Inc. - established in 1971 - and Commercial Testing Laboratories - established in 1948.

"Commercial Testing Laboratories has been an integral piece of CTL/Thompson for more than 25 years," said Ron McOmber, PE, president of CTL/Thompson Inc. JVA Announces New Civil Project

The project is funded by student fees and includes pavement, drainage and lighting upgrades to the existing lots, new parking areas and an improved circulation pattern with central drive aisles and a roundabout at the main entry. Pinkard Begins New Conter Community Center Project

Pinkard Construction recently broke ground on the new Conter Community Center in Commerce City. The design of the new community center reflects existing Conter House buildings constructed in the bungalow and arts-and-crafts styles. Some materials from the old Conter House will be reused in the new center.

The $440,000 project will include a library, multi-purpose room, meeting room, kitchen, bathrooms, storage and mechanical room. The architect is Barker Rinker Seacat of Denver.

Quality to Perform Electrical Work for Panorama IV Parking Structure

Quality Electric Inc. was selected as the electrical contractor for the 291,000-sq-ft Panorama IV parking structure. The multi-level structure next to the Panorama office buildings in Englewood will provide parking for the new T-REX light rail station at Dry Creek Road and I-25.

Quality Electric will provide lighting, power and telephone connections, as well as provisions for connections to future office buildings. Saunders Construction is the general contractor and SEM Architects Inc. will provide architectural services. Construction is scheduled for completion this fall.

Montrose Hospital Project Under Way

Construction of the new 91,000-sq-ft patient tower at Montrose Memorial Hospital in Montrose has begun. After G.E. Johnson Construction Co. completed an expansion project five years ago for MMH, recent growth in the area has created the need for more space.

The new addition, designed by H+L Architecture, will include additional patient beds as well as a new medical/surgical patient care area with private rooms, a new emergency room, intensive care unit, cardiac catheterization lab, front entry and food service operation. The project has been designed with a fourth floor shell to accommodate future expansion and a rooftop helipad that directly accesses the emergency room.
