Energy Star Honors the Alliance Center/ HRH Acquires Denver’s Talty Agency/Vision Land Consultants Expands to Western Slope

The Alliance Center, a multi-tenant nonprofit managed by the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado, recently added an Energy Star rating to its list of sustainable certifications.

Alliance for Sustainable Colorado Earns Energy Star

The Alliance Center, owned and managed by the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado, has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star, a national symbol for superior energy efficiency and environmental protection.

Commercial buildings and industrial plants that rate in the top 25% of facilities in the nation for energy efficiency may qualify for the Energy Star. The Alliance Center is one of only two buildings in the country to earn two LEED certifications gold in Existing Buildings and silver in Commercial Interiors. After enhancing its energy efficiency, the Alliance Center has seen significant performance improvements, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 80,000 lb per year and cutting energy costs by 12 cents per sq ft.

GE Johnson Awarded Colorado Crossings Project

GE Johnson Construction Co. of Colorado Springs was recently awarded Colorado Crossings, a mixed-use development located in north Colorado Springs at Interquest and Highway 83. OZ Architecture of Denver is the project architect on the three-office-building phase of the overall master plan. The buildings range from two to four levels of core-shell office space, with an anticipated start this month.


David Evans & Associates Makes ‘Top 100 Best’ List

Fortune magazine recently announced that David Evans & Associates Inc., with offices in Denver, has been ranked 73rd on the 11th annual “100 Best Companies to Work For” list. DEA has 25 offices in seven states and employs nearly 1,100 people.


HRH Acquires Denver’s Talty Insurance Agency

Hilb Rogal & Hobbs Co. acquired Denver-based Talty Insurance Agency Inc. on Feb. 1. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Talty had been independently owned since its founding in 1973. With more than $2.7 million in annual revenue, Talty offers coverage for both property and casualty and employee benefits clients, with a focus on community associations, small business and personal insurance. Talty is the third organization to join HRH’s Colorado operation in the past year. The Urman Co. and Brown/Raynor Corp. were acquired in June and July 2007, respectively.

HRH is the eighth largest insurance and risk management intermediary in the United States, with more than 140 offices throughout the world.


KL&A’s Golden Office Relocates, Denver Office Moves to River North

KL&A Structural Engineers recently moved its Golden office to new space on Washington Avenue, Golden’s main street. With the help of Ewers Architects and Happel Construction, the firm completely renovated the former first floor law office in the 1960s-era brick building to accommodate the requirements of a growing staff as well as the latest technology. Vision Land Consultants Expands to Western Slope

Vision Land Consultants of Golden recently announced its expansion of services to include a branch office in Rifle and the acquisition of G&H Consulting Engineers in Granby.

The firm has been providing civil engineering and construction management for 10 years in the Rocky Mountain region and surrounding states. Through the acquisition of G&H, Vision Land Consultants creates a work force focused in all areas of land development, public infrastructure and construction management. The opening of the Rifle office and the Granby acquisition are the first steps toward expanding the firm’s presence on the Western Slope.


Quality Electric Provides Services to Wyoming Air Base

Quality Electric Inc. was selected by Sampson Construction of Lincoln, Neb., to provide electrical contracting services for the 103,000-sq-ft, LEED-registered, state-of-the-art Army Aviation Support Facility for the Wyoming Air National Guard, located at the Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne.

The aviation facility will house nine Blackhawk helicopters, schedule flights, maintain the aircraft and house 55 full-time personnel and approximately 130 personnel during assembly periods. The site will include a helipad, tarmac and taxiway high-voltage aircraft lighting, as well as parking lot and pedestrian lighting. The electrical portion of the contract is expected to reach $5.5 million.

The facility broke ground in November, with estimated completion in spring 2009.


A&P Surpasses 1 Million Man Hours Without Lost-Time Accident

Adolfson & Peterson Construction of Aurora recently surpassed a major safety milestone: 1 million man hours worked with no lost-time accidents throughout the contractor’s four geographic locations.

The goal is part of A&P’s overall mission to reach 5 million hours company wide without a lost-time accident. The safety milestone was reached through the combined efforts of more than 600 employees working on numerous projects nationwide.


CH2M HILL to Help Cummins Reduce Greenhouse Gases

Denver-based CH2M HILL, a full-service engineering, construction and operations firm, is developing a global facility design and construction standard for Cummins Inc. of Columbus, Ind. The standards are expected to help the manufacturer meet aggressive goals for greenhouse gas reduction.

As a participant in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Leaders program, Cummins has pledged to reduce its corporate-wide greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2010, against a base year of 2005.

CH2M HILL will develop best-practice global facility design and construction standards that will allow Cummins to benefit from consistent quality of facilities, a higher standard of risk management and improved energy efficiency in its new and existing facilities.
