High Desert Homes received a Built Green designation for the homebuilder's 2005 Grand Junction Parade of Homes model entry in Fruita.
With 167 points - more than twice that required to meet the Built Green standard - the home sets the bar for building green, said Kim Calomino, Built Green Colorado's director.
Highlights of the model home include radiant-floor heating, a sealed combustion fireplace; a frost-protected foundation; low-e windows; water-saving, low-flow showerheads and faucets; and panelized concrete walls. Manufactured by Superior Walls of the Rockies, the walls enhance energy efficiency up to 50 percent and use 90 percent less lumber than traditional stick framing.
CDA Raises $25K for Hurricane Relief
The Constructors and Designers Alliance raised approximately $25,000 during its third annual Construction Leadership Forum in early September.
The money will benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund in support of its efforts to help those people displaced by Hurricane Katrina. More than 400 individuals representing all facets of the construction industry attended the networking event, which featured the announcement of the newest CDA member association -- the Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado.
ALCC will be represented on the CDA board by Todd Williams of American Civil Constructors.

OSHA, HBA Denver Sign Partnership
A partnership between the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver will help prevent home construction site hazards by educating workers on proper safety procedures. Under the program, HBA contractors agree to take responsibility for the safety and health of their subcontractors.
A key to the new program is the "Home Safe Ten-Point List: A Guide to Safe Work Practices" booklet - available in English and Spanish - that will be used by all Home Safe partners to meet or exceed OSHA construction standards. Home Safe Colorado builds on partnerships in 1998 and 2002 and is designed to reduce accidents and workers' compensation claims in the home building industry.
